Podcasts I Can't Stop Listening to

Podcasts I Can't Stop Listening to

A few years ago, while looking for something to help me fall asleep, I discovered the world of podcasts. Since that moment, I’ve been hooked! I recommend podcasts to anyone, but especially for those who love reading and storytelling.

Below is a small list of some podcasts I currently love and listen to as often as I can! I realize I am into niche topics and podcasts, but perhaps some of you share my odd interests.

You can listen to podcasts virtually anywhere (I use the “podcast” app on my iPhone). They are also available on Spotify, and I will link any corresponding website that have them as well. Enjoy!

  • Lore: If you didn’t know already, I’m into spooky things. Lore is a podcast that talks about real life spooky happenings. Most are rooted in history and in urban legends (hence the name). A recent episode I loved was Episode 124: To Die For. In this episode, host Aaron Manhnke discusses deadly fashion fads throughout history.

  • You Must Remember This: You Must Remember This delves into the forgotten history of the Golden Age of Hollywood. If you love cinema and the juiciness of early Hollywood, this podcast is for you. Currently, You Must Remember This is focusing on Disney’s racist animated movie “Song of the South”. Last weeks episode is on Hattie McDaniel, one of the stars of “Song of the South”, and the first black performer to win an Oscar.

  • My Favorite Murder: Surprise, surprise. I am also into true crime, who would have thought? In My Favorite murder, hosts Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark tell their favorite true crime stories. It sounds dark (which it is), but there chemistry and off the wall jokes make it entertaining and at times, hilarious. A recent episode I loved was Lick The Clock , where the hosts discuss the Radium Girls. If you don’t know who the Radium Girls are, listen to podcast, the story is WACK.

  • Dolly Parton’s America: I always knew Dolly Parton was a bad bitch, but I didn’t know the extent of it. Admittingly, I don’t know much of Dolly’s music (except for Jolene, c’mon, that’s a classic). In Dolly Parton’s America, host Jad Abumrad interviews Dolly about her life and her songs. As simple as this concept may sound, Abmurad really pulls you into Dolly’s world and even her mind set when she wrote her iconic songs. The second episode, “I Will Alway Leave you” gets the lowdown on how and why she wrote “I Will Always Love You”, the iconic song which was later made famous by the late Whitney Houston.

  • The History Chicks: In each episode of The History Chicks, the focus is on a notable woman from history. This is a very informative podcast and they talk about royalty, actresses, artists, writers, and more! I can guarantee you’ll learn something new or more information about a historical woman you may be a fan of! A recent episode I loved was Episode 135 on silent film star Louise Brookes.

  • Anything Ghost : Halloween may be over, but for me, spooky szn is all year long! In Anything Ghost, people send in there personal paranormal experiences to be told by host, Lex Wahl. If you scare easily, this might not be for you. I often get a little too spooked after listen to Anything Ghost!

This is just a small sample of some podcasts I listen to! I have so many more that I love. Some honorable mentions include This American Life, Crime Junkie, Mile Higher Podcast, and Radio Diaries.
