I Bought a Poetry Blind Date With A Book

I Bought a Poetry Blind Date With A Book

This is my second cottagecore-inspired post for September, if you haven’t read my first one about Rancho Los Alamitos, click here.

It may come as a surprise to no one to find out that I love reading. In fact, I’ve written quite a few posts about books I’ve read and my struggles to get out of reading slumps.

A few weeks ago, I started a new job and I work fewer hours than I was before. Thus, I’ve had ample time to read and I’ve been doing so for at least an hour almost every day.

That being said, sometimes it can be overwhelming for me to chose something to read. Not only am I picky, but sometimes, I’m not even sure of what I’m looking for.

This lead me to something called a “blind date with a book” and it’s exactly what it sounds. I actually saw Barnes & Noble doing this, but I decided to go on Etsy to get mine.

Essentially, it’s a wrapped mystery book. You won’t have the name of the author or the title. You can, however, chose the genre.

Sometimes it will have a plot summary but oftentimes it’s chosen at random by someone (in this case for me, Sabrina, the Etsy shop owner of the Cozy Cat Collective).

If anything, this is an experience and so this post will reflect that! First thing’s first, it took only a week for my blind date book to arrive all the way from Florida (I live in California). Sabrina messaged shortly after putting in my order to thank me and let me know she was shipping it asap.

Second, I specified that the book be cottagecore themed and poetry (she had the option and that’s what I put in my cart).

However, she does have a few other genres up in her shop if this doesn’t sound appealing to you.

The photo above is the parcel I received. I love the attention to detail; it’s serving both cottagecore and dreamy vintage vibes!

After unwrapping my blind date book, I found A Journey to Elsewhere. I think this is where the true beauty of this purchase comes in…it led me to discover something I would have never picked up on my own. The poem below is one that I enjoyed from the book.

The book is divided into seasons, and the themes include gardening, change, and growth. It’s a simple read and quite introspective.

Besides the book, my package also included two stickers, a floral bookmark, and herbal tea (pictured below)! With shipping, I paid $15. Personally, I think this is a great gift for any reader or for yourself.

Moreover, the experience itself feels, in a way, personal. Sabrina (the shop owner), obviously doesn’t know me, but the package felt like I received it from a friend. You can tell that she takes her time preparing and curating each package toward the genre or theme the buyer is looking for.

The post is not sponsored. However, I absolutely love this idea and wanted to share it with you all, especially considering the holidays are creeping up. It’s a great gift and a cozy fall purchase.
