So many books, so little time

Hey, bookworms! Happy 2023!

As expected, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to continue my reading streak.

Thus, I’ve compiled a short list of books that I’m planning to read this year.

There are actually several, and I mean several, books on my TBR list, but my selections below are my most anticipated reads.

Enjoy!

Kindred by Octavia E. Butler

Why I chose this:

In Kindred, the main character, Dana is an African American woman, who is able to travel back in time.

Dana goes from living in California in the 1970s to facing the horrors of slavery in the Antebellum South.

This book has everything I’m looking for; time travel, history, and suspense.

***BTW, Hulu recently dropped a series based on the book. It’s also called Kindred and it is AMAZING.

The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule

Why I chose this:

In The Stranger Beside Me, author Ann Rule writes about her friendship with Ted Bundy, whom she knew before he became an infamous serial killer.

Admittedly, I don’t care much about Bundy.

However, this book has been continually praised in the true crime community and labeled as a “must-read” for true crime lovers like myself.

What can I say? I was sold.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence

Why I chose this:

Upon its release in 1928, Lady Chatterley’s Lover caused a stir for its lurid and sexual content regarding an affair between an upper-class woman and a lowborn man.

Although considered tame by today’s standards, the book has previously been banned in several countries, including the United States.

Simply put, Lady Chatterley’s Lover sounds like classy smut and I’m here for it.

And yes, I did watch Netflix’s steamy adaptation, and I very much enjoyed it.

Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

Why I chose this:

In a few words, Tender Is the Flesh is a dystopian novel about cannibalism.

This book has been described as brilliant and disgusting, which of course, piqued my interest.

Moreover, Cannibalism is an incredibly taboo subject and I’m curious to see author Agustina Bazterrica’s take on this content.

Happy reading!

I hope you all enjoy my selections for this year! Make sure to check out Leslie’s Library and to follow me on Instagram.

Much love to you all and cheers to 2023!
