Highlights From My New Orleans Trip
Hey Ya’ll, I recently took a trip down south to New Orleans and Mississippi. With so much to see and do, I narrowed it down to a few of my favorite activities and food. Here are my must do’s and eats while in New Orleans!
Activities:
The French Quarter- the French Quarter is iconic and has plenty to offer. From classic architecture to Jackson Square, this is a must see while in NOLA! The French Quarter is also home to the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum. The museum is perfect for history and antique lovers. Admission is only $5.
Audubon Park- Audubon Park has delightful views of the Mississippi River and is a great place to sit back and relax in NOLA. Parking is plentiful and free, as is admission. There are Sno-ball (shaved ice) and ice cream trucks as well to cool down!
Oak Alley Plantation- There are a few plantations around NOLA, however, I went to Oak Alley Plantation an hour outside of the city. Admission is $25 but I can guarantee you will spend most of the day here. With admission, you can take an informative tour of the plantation home and see exhibits on how life was like during slavery. Louisiana is a beautiful state, but we must not forget its dark past.
Cemeteries- NOLA has interesting burial practices unlike anywhere else (here is a video explaining more). The cemeteries are hauntingly beautiful and a must see. You can take a tour or just walk into some of them on your own. I visited Lafayette Cemetery No.1 although, there are several other options to check out.
Take a Day Trip to Biloxi Beach- Biloxi Beach, Mississippi is only an hour and a half away from NOLA. The sand is white and the water is warm-perfect for a beach day!
The food in the South was AMAZING. Here are some yummy and affordable spots I enjoyed!
Chef Ron’s Gumbo Stop - The gumbo was superb and prices vary from $7-$15.
BOIL Seafood House- The crawfish boil here is so good, my boyfriend and I went twice in a row! A pound of crawfish with some bread and corn cost us less than $20.
Cafe du Monde - Iconic beignets and coffee…do I need to say more?
Waffle House- Waffle house is extremely cheap and a southern must. They are also open 24 hours.
Zaxby’s - Zaxby’s is also a southern must! They have various locations (none in NOLA sadly), so I had it in Gulfport, Mississippi, on my way to Biloxi Beach. The chicken is great and also very affordable!
Slap Ya Momma’s - I also had this in Biloxi Beach. This is real southern BBQ and is mouth watering delicious. Prices range from $7-$30.
