Last night, my boyfriend and I visited Weedmaps Museum of Weed, a new pop up and instagrammable experience based on you guessed it, weed. Los Angeles has a lot of these, from the notorious Museum of Ice Cream and most recently, TacoTopia. I am a non user of Marijuana and so, I had my reservations going in. Would I enjoy it, or even understand it? The answer to both these questions is yes!
What I loved most about the Museum of Weed was the intrinsic manner it fused both history and amusement together. Don’t get me wrong, this is 100% a photo op, but by chronicling the highs (ha) and lows of Marijuanas’s history, it also becomes educational. This was something I highly admired. There wasn’t just “trippy” walls only for Instagram purposes, there was relics, photos, and science.
I was too caught up reading and looking at all the photos and artifacts to take photos of the actual exhibit but I will explain briefly. Like the pop up museums mentioned above, this is a walk through experience. It is divided by time periods and monumental mile stones in Marijuana’s history. This includes ancient civilizations and even how Marijuana aided the AIDS crisis of the 80’s/90’s. It ends with discussing the future of Marijuana.
For someone who knows minimal about Marijuana, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you are passionate about Marijuana, you will undoubtedly love this museum. If you aren’t, you will still have a good time and learn something new. I want to give props to Weedmaps (they are basically a Yelp and delivery service for Marijuana). They could have easily made this into a strictly entertainment type of experience, but they didn’t. It is well curated and thoughtful. So what are you waiting for? Go take a trip down to Hollywood to visit this one of a kind pop up museum.
