Haunted Places I Want to Visit

Haunted Places I Want to Visit

Hey friends, happy Halloween! 🎃

I’m finishing up this spooktober with a post about haunted places I’d love to visit one day. Last year, I wrote about destinations I’ve already been to (click here to check it out).

Although I do not want to see or encounter anything paranormal, I find that visiting haunted places is a great way to learn about history and the past. As I mentioned in the post linked above, I’ve visited prisons, cemeteries, and more.

This has given me an opportunity to briefly experience history as it was, which is one of my favorite parts of traveling. Without further ado, let’s dive into allegedly haunted places that are calling to me.

  • Salem, Massachusetts

I don’t think I have to explain why Salem is considered to be spooky AF! First of all, New England in itself kinda gives me the heebie-jeebies. Second, Smithsonian Magazine states that 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft here in the 1690s. 20 were eventually executed.

Besides it being the site of the infamous witch trials, I’m a sucker for old buildings and architecture. The house above was actually built in the 1600s!

  • Alcatraz Island, San Fransisco

I’ve been to San Fransisco quite a few times and each time, I always missed out on going to Alcatraz. Tickets have to be purchased in advance and they have always been sold out when I’ve gone.

Anyways, what could be worst than prison? A prison on an island TBH. People are said to hear moaning and crying coming from certain cells even though Alcatraz has been closed since 1963 and is now a tourist attraction.

  • Paris Catacombs, France

I have always wanted to go to Paris and one big reason is to see the catacombs and Père Lachaise Cemetery. I’m unsure if the catacombs are actually haunted but I’m assuming that the ancient dark tunnels that home 7 million bodies have to be just slightly cursed.

Why are the bodies here? Paris cemeteries in the 17th century were overflowing and something had to be done, so why not put them underground?

  • Panteón de Belén, Guadalajara

I have flown into Guadalajara, Mexico several times to visit family but I have never been able to really get to know the city. The Panteón (cemetery) de Belén, is a place full of tragedy and lore. According to Atlas Obscura, many are said to see the ghosts of those buried on the grounds roaming at night.

Besides this, cemeteries in Mexico are completely different from the ones in the U.S. This one, in particular, is known for its architecture and historical significance.

BONUS:

  • The Winchester Mystery House, San Jose

I’m happy to announce that I will be going to the Winchester Mystery House in December!

Ever since I was 10-years-old, I’ve dreamt of visiting this bizarre and beautiful home. San Jose is only 6 hours away from me but I’ve always missed out on it. I’m so ready and I will be documenting my visit on The Leslie Life so stay tuned!

Thank you for reading and stay spooky! Much love.

XOXO
