My Top 5 Favorite Albums Made By Women

Hey y’all! Welcome back to another blog post. As you can see from the title, I’m going to be discussing albums made by women that I keep coming back to through the years.

I’ve probably have mentioned these before either on my blog or in person (if you know me in real life!).

These are my personal favorites and I’m going to be (briefly) telling you why. I will also be sharing with you my top 3 favorite tracks of said album.

Enjoy and thanks for reading!

  • Golden Hour-Kacey Musgraves:

Yes, I am very much into country music! Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves however, is less country and more pop and electropop influenced. It makes me feel like in a field of flowers enjoying life’s simplicities. I love this album so much I actually bought the CD (remember those?) for my car. This whole album is dreamy and if you aren’t into traditional country music, trust me when I tell you that you will be into this!

My Favorite Songs:

  1. Lonely Weekend

  2. Golden hour

  3. Butterflies

  • Isolation-Kali Uchis

This entire album is a masterpiece and is *chefs kiss*. What draws me into Kali Uchis so much is the influence of soul, R&B, and Latino music in her discography. Specific songs off Isolation make you feel like you’re in the 1960s in one moment and then the early 2000s the next. I had this playing constantly back in 2018 when it was first released and it reminds me of traveling to New York City for the first time.

My Favorite Songs:

  1. Tomorrow

  2. Your Teeth in My Neck

  3. Feel Like a Fool

  • Born to Die-Lana Del Rey

Do I think this Lana’s best album? No, however, it’s probably my favorite album because it embodies her aesthetic so well. Born to Die references 1950s and 1960s Americana and is incredibly cinematic. Lana also infuses her lyrics with literature references (albeit problematic). I find both of these impressive, especially as this was her first major launch. I associate this album with summer and nostalgia and all in all, the whole thing is a banger.

My Favorite Songs:

  1. Off to the Races

  2. Radio

  3. Million Dollar Man

  • Evermore-Taylor Swift

I wrote an entire blog post about Folklore, the album that precedes Evermore. I want to say that Evermore is just as good and perhaps even better. It’s been in my constant rotation since it was released in December of 2020. Like with Folklore, Swift returns to her country roots in Evermore and continues to focus on storytelling (and a cottagecore aesthetic). The lyrics range from forbidden love to murdering a cheating husband. In one word, Evermore is ethereal.

My Favorite Songs:

  1. Willow

  2. Dorothea

  3. Ivy

  • Blackout-Britney Spears

When Blackout was released in 2007, Britney Spears was in the midst of her very public mental breakdown. Regardless, she managed to drop what I think is her best album to date. After school in the 6th grade, my friend Sierra would come over to do homework and we would listen to Blackout on my pink Hello Kitty boombox.

The album is upbeat, high tempo, and in some songs, references the media’s obsession with Spears. Her voice is very auto-tuned, but not to the point where you don’t recognize her signature breathy vocals. Blackout is a revolutionary pop album. If you don't believe me, it’s listed as #441 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.

My Favorite Songs:

  1. Radar

  2. Break the Ice

  3. Hot as Ice

Well, that is it for this post, you guys! What do you think? Do any of you love these albums as much as I do? Let me know!

Bye for now!

XOXO
