Camp Snap Review
Some years ago, I was very interested in photography and spent a pretty penny on cameras and developing film photos. Although I love photography, I did end up quitting the hobby. This was mainly because the cameras I used were heavy and bulky.
Simply put, I grew tired of lugging around my gear everywhere. A few months ago, I was on TikTok, saw the Paper Shoot Camera, and was sold on the idea.
It’s lightweight and, most importantly, replicates the aesthetic of film photos. However, the cameras are expensive (well over $100), which is ridiculous given that the item is literally made out of paper.
Nevertheless, I was going to purchase a Paper Shoot, but then an Instagram ad led me to discover Camp Snap.
Camp Snap looks like a disposable camera but is, in fact, digital. Like Paper Shoot, It gives its photos a vintage look. The best part? It's a fraction of the price of Paper Shoot. And what's more, the company is local to the South Bay (where I'm from).
In March 2024, I purchased a Camp Snap camera for $65 and want to give you all an honest review. I contacted Brian Waldman, one of Camp Snap's founders, to answer some questions about his product.
Although he initially agreed to this, my subsequent emails were unfortunately ignored. With that said, let's get into my thoughts on Camp Snap.
The rundown on Camp Snap:
At this time, a Camp Snap camera costs $65 (not including shipping or taxes). However, the price will increase to $75 on April 21, 2024.
The camera is available in pink, brown, aqua, yellow, red, black, white, forest green, and navy (pictured above). I purchased mine in brown.
It does not have a screen; in other words, it’s a point-and-shoot camera.
Note that it does feature a counter that tells you how many photos you have taken.
It also includes a flash that you can turn on and off or keep on auto.
It’s preloaded with a memory card that can hold 2,000 photos.
Every order includes a USB-C cable and a page of instructions.
You can upload your pictures to a computer via the USB-C cable.
This is also how you delete photos off your camera.
The Camp Snap camera is rechargeable (use the USB-C cable)
How to use Camp Snap:
First, make sure your camera is charged.
Then, turn on the camera by pressing the shutter button (a beeping sound will indicate it’s on)
Look through the viewfinder and press the shutter (a shutter noise denotes you took a photo)
To turn the device off, press the shutter button until it beeps.
The results:
The pros of Camp Snap:
It’s lightweight and compact
It’s user-friendly and ideal for photo enthusiasts of all ages
It’s inexpensive
There was no set-up involved
The photos have a lovely vintage aesthetic
The cons:
The photo quality can be hit or miss. I suggest taking multiple photos each time to guarantee a usable image.
If you have an older computer (like me), you might not have a USB-C port to charge or upload your photos. I had to purchase a USB to USB-C adapter on Amazon.
I also noticed that the camera would turn on whenever I carried it in my purse, so I purchased a small case on Amazon to prevent this.
Camp Snap does not sell USB to USB-C adapters or camera cases.
Users have to manually enter the metadata of each photo (such as the date that the photo was taken). It doesn’t automatically do this, which is quite frankly annoying.
