How To Get This Modern 60's Look
Hey ya’ll! I wanted to share with you a look I had fun wearing. I am by no means a makeup guru but I do like playing around with different looks. I am usually a winged eyeliner and red lip kind of girl;I get a lot of my fashion and makeup inspiration from the 40’s and 50’s. However, I wanted to try something different, and that is how the inspiration for this 60’s look came about.
In doing some research and looking at photos from that era, I found it to be a rather simple look I could achieve with some makeup products I already had. The eyes are largely accentuated, with the face and lips kept pale. Check out the products I used below to recreate this look!
Hair:
I’m gonna start out by saying that I have no idea what to do with my hair ever. I have very thick, straight, and heavy hair. So, this is partly half assed but I tried.
To add some volume, I decided to curl my hair with this inexpensive wand. I bought this a few years ago and have the 0.5-1 inch wand. If you have thick hair like me, I would recommend the 1-1.5 inch wand. I curled the ends of my hair, then brushed it out and slightly teased it with a Wet Brush and then Voila. I then added a black headband to complete the look.
Face:
As I mentioned above, the face was kept pale and mostly natural in the 60’s. First, I primed my skin using the E.l.f prep & hydrate balm. I then used this Maybelline concealer in the shade “fair” under my eyes and this Neutrogena one also in the shade “fair” to cover a few zits.
For blush, I used “Noodle” by Colourpop. It’s a pastel pink color that gives you a natural fresh faced glow, perfect for the minimal look I’m trying to achieve. I then used my favorite Clinique Superpowder Double Face Makeup in “Matte Neutral” to blend the blush and give my face a matte finish. The face is now complete, now to the eyes and brows!!
Eyes/brows:
For my brows, I kept them pretty natural. I used this E.l.f. brow pencil in “deep brown” to slightly fill them in and brush them out. Moving on to the water line, I used a nude eyeliner from Essence . A white or nude eyeliner was popular to use on the waterline in the 60’s. This brightens your eyes and also makes them look bigger and more doll like.
To prep my eyes for blue eyeshadow, I used the shade “Sunnies” from the Maybelline Lemonade Craze palette all over my lid. I then packed the lightest blue shade from the I Heart Revolution donut shaped eyeshadow palette in Blueberry Crush on my lid.
**Disclaimer**: I had never used this palette before and found the blue shade I used (they aren’t named) to be difficult. It did not blend or pick up color well. So if there are any recommendations for any blue eyeshadow singles let me know in the comments below!
I finished the eye shadow look by putting "Sweet Tea” ( a brown shade) from the Lemonade Craze palette in my crease to make the faded blue pop out even more! Now on to eyeliner.
For eyeliner, I drew a thick line using Wet N Wild’s MegaLiner and used the Renaissance Flick Eyeliner Pen to draw on bottom lashes since I did not have any fake eyelashes. I used this Essence Mascara for volume.
Lips:
Lips were pink and pale in the 60’s. To achieve this I used a Maybelline lip liner in the shade “Nude Whisper” and NYX Lip Lingerie in “Ruffle Trim”.
