My Socially Distanced Saturday

My Socially Distanced Saturday

Like most people, I don’t really leave my house too much anymore. So when I do, I of course have to write about it and make a TikTok!

This past Saturday, I drove an hour to the Pasadena/Altadena area to see and give my lovely friend Sierra her Christmas gift. Sierra and I have been friends since kindergarten and this year, for obvious reasons, I’ve only seen her a handful of times.

We decided to get some food and spend some time outdoors. Here’s how our day went:

After I arrived at Sierra’s, we headed to Pillow Talk, a Japanese style cafe (the cover photo for this blog post was taken inside of here).

This place is very inconspicuous. It doesn’t look like an eatery from the outside; in fact, it’d be easy to miss if you’re not looking for it!

However, Sierra and I saw someone review this place on TikTok and our curiosity beckoned us to do the same. Their menu is small and simple. I went with the egg heaven sandwich, which consists of egg salad and a soft boiled egg. To drink I had a sparkling lemonade, and for dessert, a matcha cake.

I must say that all this was nearly $30 but when you see the food (pictured below), you understand why. It doesn’t even look real and is presented beautifully.

If you want to visit Pillow Talk for yourself, you can find it at 526 S Lake Ave, in Pasadena. It’s currently open from Thursday to Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm.

We headed back to Sierra’s to have a picnic in her backyard. Her house is located next to the side of a mountain (seriously), and we had a great view outside! A wasp bothered us for a bit but overall, our picnic was perfect.

The day was still young, however, so we decided to go on a walk. I was taken aback by how massive all the houses around her neighborhood were and how much greenery they had.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I see a house (like the one above), I literally cannot believe someone actually just casually lives in there. The picture above is just one example but all the houses looked like that.

We walked to and from a coffee shop called Cafe De Leche. In total, the walk there and back was around three or more miles but it was definitely worth it!

Overall, I enjoyed discovering a new neighborhood I had never seen before. Altadena and Pasadena are beautiful. For a few hours, it felt like I wasn’t in Los Angeles!

Believe it or not, the picnic and walk took up most of the day. After we got back from the coffee shop, we rested for a few minutes and then I got into my car and drove back to the South Bay.

Overall, it felt great to see a friend and to be outdoors. Most importantly, we were safe the entire time. We wore masks (except when we were eating, but we keep apart while we did). We were also away from other people.

How about you? How did you spend your Saturday?
