Olive & June Review

Olive & June Review

Happy Monday everyone!

I have not done a beauty review in a long time so today, that’s exactly what I’m going to do! However, instead of makeup, I’m going to be reviewing Olive & June, a company that specializes in nail polish and nail products.

I am familiar with Olive & June because I’ve seen some of their products at my local target. A few weeks ago, I somehow ended up on their website and was very intrigued by their so-called Mani Kits.

On a whim, I decided to get The Studio Box, which is what I will be reviewing today. Before I get started, I want to put out there that I purchased this with my own money and these are my honest thoughts on the products.

I bought the box off the Olive & June website, and it took about a week to get delivered. Read on below to find out more about what’s inside!

  • The Box

First and foremost, I want to talk about the packaging. I was very impressed by the feminine and sleek styling of the soft-pink box. However, what I truly love is that this box is not just a one-time piece. It’s very sturdy and has a magnetic flap that opens and closes. It’s meant to store all of your products long term.

  • What’s in the box?

Above, you’ll find everything that comes inside. It includes nail clippers, a buffer, nail file, nail polish remover, a brush to clean up your mistakes, a soft nail polish handle called poppy, a topcoat, cuticle serum, and nail polish in the color of your choice (I of course picked red). The box also comes with a reusable bag for your nail essentials (pictured below).

  • My review of the products

When I opened my box, I was disappointed to find that my nail clippers were missing. I quickly sent them an email, and they replied to me that same night apologizing. Within a week, I had the nail clippers delivered to me. Customer service definitely gets an A+ in my book.

But, let’s get into my thoughts on the actual products. In the box, you’ll find a set of directions (seen below). I decided to follow them to see if they would improve my manicure. Keep in mind, I’m NOT good at doing my nails, and for the most part, my nails never look good (unless professionally done), which is one of the very reasons I decided to purchase this box.

Scanned Documents.jpg

Olive & June say they like to cut and shape their nails first before taking off old nail polish. Since I had none on, I went in with their flat-edge nail clippers.

The nail clippers felt very sturdy and anything but cheap They were not flimsy at all, which is a problem I’ve had with other nail clippers.

Moving on, I buffed my nails and used the nail file. Again, I was impressed by the quality of these products. The buffer was excelling for removing ridges and the nail file was nice and gritty.

After, it was time for the nail polish. As I mentioned above, the box comes with the polish of your choice. I chose CV, a color they describe as cherry red. Before painting my nails, I took off the overcap, and placed the poppy on it.

The poppy is a soft rubbery handle that is supposed to make painting your nails easier. After placing the poppy, it was time to get work. I will say that regardless of the poppy, I still made a mess while painting my nails. However, I did find that it put less strain on my hands and made it easier to paint my nails with my left hand (I’m right-handed).

As directed, I waited two minutes before applying another coat of polish. As I said, due to the red polish, they looked messy. That’s when the nail brush and nail polish remover came in. Using the brush, I dipped it into the remover to gently go around the edges of my nails to clean up the sides.

I was very impressed with the brush and it was actually a relaxing process. The nail remover is acetone-free and doesn’t have a strong smell and was very gentle on the skin. To finish my manicure, I went in with the topcoat that left my nails salon-quality shiny. Once I knew my nails were dried, I used the cuticle oil for added shine.

  • My final thoughts

Overall, I am quite happy with my purchase. The Studio Box costs $50, so this was a splurge for me. Since I had never tried any Olive & June products, I was worried these products would be subpar.

However, I find that they are actually salon-quality products and do feel different from nail products I have bought from Target (as in from their Up&Up brand) or Dollar Tree.

I know some nail salons are currently open but I’m not interested in going. That being said, I think this box makes it easy to do your own nails in a way that is fun and simple. My personal favorite products from the box are the nail brush and the topcoat. They really take the manicure to another level. In the end, I loved how my nails looked.

I will say that I’m not sure how I feel about the poppy (as seen below). Do I think it’s a nice addition? Yes. Do I think you need it? No. The poppy on its own is $16. I think the best part is that I can use it on any nail polish I want and it has a nice texture.

On another note, the box comes with nine products, but I do think it was missing a few items. For example, although it comes with a topcoat, it does not come with a base coat. I had to use my own and for me personally, I think a base coat is more important because it protects your nails.

It also didn’t come with anything to clean underneath your nails. Perhaps I’m being picky, but this box claims to come with everything you need for a manicure and that is almost true in my opinion.

I also think it’s a little pricey but for the quality and amount of items you get, it makes up for the price. All in all, this box makes a perfect gift for adults and teens alike for any occasion. In the future, I definitely would like to purchase more polishes from Olive & June.

As I mentioned earlier, I bought the box online. They also have other boxes. Their Everything Box comes with everything my box came with and 6 nail polishes. You can also get the Tool Box which comes with everything I mentioned but with no polish. You can purchase some of their nail polish, the poppy, cuticle serum, and nail stickers at your local Target.

Have you guys tried any Olive & June products? Let me know! Thank you for reading this view and I will see you next week on The Leslie Life.

Xoxo
