A Self-Care Saturday

A Self-Care Saturday

Howdy friends, let’s talk self-care! Now that I work full time, I rarely ever get a full day to myself to do nothing. If I’m not working, I’m running errands. If I’m not running errands, I’m hanging out with one out of the two friends I have.

But let’s be clear, I’m not complaining. For the most part, I enjoy staying busy. Especially because for the majority of the year, I haven’t been. However, sometimes it feels really good to stay home and do nothing but things that make you feel good.

This past Saturday, the only plans I had involved taking my close friend out to dinner. Besides that, I literally had nothing else planned and I took full advantage of it. Read on below to find out what I did to pamper myself.

  • But first, coffee:

I woke Saturday morning craving coffee. If you know me then you know that I actually am not a huge fan of coffee and love tea. In the last few months, I started trying coffee from fast-food restaurants. My preferred is from Dunkin’, but the closest one to me is pretty far so, I found that Mcdonald’s coffee does the trick. Their pumpkin spice latte is actually quite tasty! I drank my coffee with a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel (not from Mcondslds). I give this breakfast a 10/10.

  • Reading time:

After breakfast and watching an episode of “Criminal: UK” on Netflix, I decided to take some time to read. This is something I have been trying to incorporate into my everyday routine and for the most part, I actually have been doing a good job of keeping up.

My friend Brigitte suggested to me that I buy books from Thrift Books instead of Amazon and I recently got a small haul (including this book). If you haven’t heard of Thrift Books, I highly recommend them. They have great prices as well as free shipping if you spend $10. My books also came in less than two weeks.

But anyway, I have never read “Flowers In The Attic” and decided I had to after hearing that it’s a classic and disturbing book. I have not finished it yet but so far, I am captivated by the storytelling. I read for more than an hour and then I decided to move on to the next thing on my to-do list.

  • Nails:

If you read last week’s post, then you know I reviewed a manicure kit I purchased. I used it again this week but this time, I didn’t paint my nails red. I decided to go with a breathable natural color. This Orly BB Crème is basically the same color as healthy nails but with a slight tint for shine. This is a good product if you want to bring more color and gloss to your natural nails.

  • Face mask:

Once I was done with my nails, I did several random things. I cleaned my room, vacuumed, showered, spent some time on TikTok, and YouTube. In between all this though, I decided I couldn’t go on without doing a face mask.

I usually do sheet masks, but I hadn’t used this product in a while so I went with the Berryglow probiotic mask. This particular face mask came in a BOXYCHARM a few months ago. It smells like yogurt and you put it on for only 10 minutes, before removing it with a tissue. It makes your face feel pretty soft and smooth however, I don’t think it’s worth the $50 retail price. Regardless, I keep it in my skincare fridge and occasionally use it when I remember to.

  • Makeover:

After I took off my face mask, I went to Starbucks and ate a small lunch. I honestly did nothing for a few hours but be on my phone and pick an outfit for dinner. That’s when I decided it was time to get glam. I used to wear makeup every day for work and school. However, since COVID, I only wear makeup once or twice a week. Thus, I enjoy the process of getting ready and going out since it’s so rare nowadays.

This is what my makeup ended up looking like:

And here is the outfit I went with:

  • Dinner:

I picked Fatima up and we headed to North Italia to celebrate her birthday. We had a good time but we rated this place a 5/10. Although the food was good (I had tortellini pasta), it was overpriced and not memorable. However, the service was great and very patient. For dessert, we went to Pinkberry to get some frozen yogurt. Overall, we had a good time catching up and it was a great way to end a self-care Saturday.
