Let’s Talk About Anxiety
Hello and welcome!
About two weeks ago, I began to suffer from severe anxiety. To be clear, I’ve always dealt with anxiety. But this time was different. For days, I was unable to fall asleep because of racing thoughts, feeling overheated, and an overall sensation of uneasiness.
After a week of feeling this way, I knew I had to do something to get some sleep. Thus, I’ve compiled a short list of the steps I’ve been taking to ensure I feel calm and rested at night.
My hope is that this can help someone else with debilitating anxiety. Let’s get into it!
Sleeping on the floor
For whatever reason, I have been unable to get comfortable in my own bed. I resorted to sleeping on the floor and it’s been working. It helps my shoulder pain (I sleep on my side) and feels much cozier. Quite honestly, I’m not sure when I’ll return to sleeping in my bed!
Drinking and taking Ashwagandha
I’m a big believer in holistic medicine and I have to say that drinking ashwagandha tea and taking supplements have helped me immensely. According to Healthline, ashwagandha is an ancient herb that is believed to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. I take one Ashwagandha supplement a day and drink the tea before bedtime.
Similarly, I’ve been taking three Holy Basil supplements a day to also combat anxiety. Like Ashwagandha, Holy Basil is said to lessen anxiety.
Both the supplements and tea can be purchased on Amazon, Whole Foods, or any local health store. With any supplement, make sure to consult your doctor and do your own research to see if this is right for you.
Reading before bed
I love being on my phone and endlessly scrolling through TikTok. Unfortunately, studies show that this makes it harder to fall asleep. I admit that I’m not reading every day but I have been trying to read a little before closing my eyes and attempting to drift off.
It’s a nice break from technology and feels good. The Seven Laws of Spiritual Success by Deepak Chopra is my current sleepytime book.
